David Gushee's farewell blog post, "After 30 years, a farewell column", is an interesting though inadvertent admission of the innate divisiveness of religion. Part of him still seems to want to latch on to the false premise that it is the specific individuals involved that create the conflicts rather than the ideas being grossly flawed and untenable. His most honest moment in the whole column probably comes in the fourth paragraph where he states:
"After all, there are only so many interesting ways to say what we all know — American Christians are as hopelessly divided as the rest of American culture..."
Sorry David, your frustration and disallusionment was the natural and inevitable outcome of honestly trying to understand religion.
This blog is intended to represent the thoughts of one particular atheist, me. Some of my views may be shared by others and some may not.

Versus: a Blog with Great Potential
It looks like Patheos is going to be adding a new blog to its already sizable roster. "Versus: The Debate Blog at Patheos" has a great deal of potential. I know nothing about Andrew Murtagh but he seems sincere in his attempt at starting open honest discussions/debates. I have read quite a bit from Adam Lee so I am hoping that he does take Murtagh up on his invitation to engage with him. I am a little unclear on how this blog will actually work but it sounds like it would be a good approach if each set of post involves two or more of the current stable of Patheos blogger from across their "channels." I intend to keep my eye on this one.

Top 200 Church Blogs
Church Relevance has put out a listing of top church blogs. It is fairly interesting. Some I am already familiar with since I routinely read them (some appear on Huffington Post and/or Patheos). Others I have heard of but have not gotten around to perusing them and many more that I have never come across in any way. It will take some time but I intend to explore them all.
I am not certain whether I will bother commenting on them or not, assuming I have not already. I will refrain from doing so before having read at least six or more posts. I feel it is only fair to withhold judgement before reading enough to have established what the blog is really like. We are all prone to lapses in reasoning. Bad Catholic, #12 on the list, is a good example. The first few post I read infuriated me. I wanted to completely skewer that ignorant fucker but didn't since at that point I had only read a few posts. Yup, I have continued to read him and can state with confidence that he is an incredibly ignorant, bigoted, moronic asshole. Since he is on the list I may find the need to expound on why I find him to be such a waste of human flesh.
